Ravin and TenPoint micro arrows versus standard bolts
Ravin and TenPoint micro-diameter arrows run their own shafts and nocks, so they are not cross-compatible with ordinary crossbow bolts.
What micro-diameter means
Micro-diameter arrows use a thinner shaft than a standard crossbow bolt. A thinner shaft carries more weight forward for a given mass and cuts less air, which many shooters find gives better downrange retention and penetration.
Ravin builds its bows and arrows around this micro shaft, and TenPoint uses micro-diameter arrows such as the.003 and.001 straightness shafts on many of its bows. The straightness numbers describe how true the shaft is, with.001 being the tighter tolerance.
Why they are not interchangeable
These systems are matched packages of shaft and nock designed for a specific cam and rail. Ravin arrows use a clip-on nock made for the Ravin cam, and TenPoint micro arrows use TenPoint nocks, so you cannot put a standard bolt on a Ravin or a Ravin arrow on a standard bow.
Trying to mix them can leave the nock unable to engage the string properly, which risks a dry-fire, and the diameter and spine will be wrong for the bow. This is a case where the maker's arrow list is the only safe source.
Standard bolts still cover most bows
Plenty of crossbows still use standard-diameter bolts around 20 inches with a half-moon, flat or capture nock. If you own one of those, a correctly specced standard bolt is the right choice and there is no need to move to micro.
The dividing line is the bow, not the arrow. Identify whether your crossbow is a micro system or a standard one, and buy the matching family.
Buying for either system
For a Ravin or a TenPoint micro bow, buy the maker's arrows in the specified length and weight, with the correct nock already fitted. For a standard bow, match length, nock, and the minimum weight for the draw weight.
