The right bolt for the Barnett Whitetail Hunter II

The correct bolt length, nock and minimum grain weight for the Barnett Whitetail Hunter II, and what stops a dry-fire.

Dry-fire warning

Crossbow bolt data and archery arrow spine, nock and thread data are quoted from each manufacturer's published figures, owner documentation and industry standards, cited on every page. A nock, spine or grain-weight mismatch can cause a dry-fire that damages the bow and can injure the shooter. Confirm against your own owner's manual and the arrow maker's own chart before shooting, and never drop below the stated minimum total weight.

The Barnett Whitetail Hunter II uses a 20 in bolt with a Half-moon nock, minimum 400 gr total with a 100 gr point (22 in Barnett-recommended). Buy the Barnett Headhunter 20 in carbon arrow with half-moon nock.

Field notes

The Whitetail Hunter II is an entry-level compound Barnett at 350 fps with 20-inch Headhunter arrows on a half-moon nock. It is a standard-diameter bow; Barnett recommends stepping to a 22-inch arrow for the least stress on the bow.

Index the half-moon nock every shot. Loaded a quarter-turn off, the string can catch the rim of the groove and dry-fire the bow. This is not a Hyper bow, so do not fit HyperFlite arrows.
